Welcome to the town of Antonio Bay. A quiet and peaceful town which masks a dark secret. Exactly 100 years ago, a ship was wrecked under mysterious circumstances in a thick and ernie FOG. Now they have returned from the grave and they seek a bloody revenge.
This little horror tale begins with an old Sea Captain (Houseman) sitting around a campfire with a group of children. He begins to tell the terrifying tale of a pirate by the name of Blake, who along with a ship full of lepers wanted to colonize and settle in the town of Antonio Bay.Six conspirators betrayed Blake and Stole his gold and established the town of Antonio Bay. The towns people became enraged and set Blake and his crew into the foggy ocean where his ship sank and mysteriously disappeared without a trace.
Now 100 years later as the centenary approaches, the people of Antonio Bay begin to prepare in their festivities lead by Kathy Williams (Leigh). Meanwhile, Stevie Wayne (Barbeau) is a disc jockey for the local radio station in Antonio Bay. She speaks to her friend who delivers the weather report to her and he tells her that their is a severe Fog moving inland. Meanwhile her son who is playing on the beach finds a piece of driftwood that has washed up on the shore. He gives his mother the driftwood who takes it back to the station with her. Inscribed on the wood is the word DANE. Stevie suddenly looks at the wood and it changes to say SIX WILL DIE. Steive is puzzled by what she sees and suddenly the wood explodes. Stevie senses that things are not quite right and warns her son to stay in the house with the babysitter for the night

Meanwhile a hitchhiker by the name of Elizabeth(Curtis), is picked up by Nick Castle (Atkins). As the two become acquainted suddenly the windows blow out in the truck for no apparent reason. Elizabeth lets out a scream and the two also realize that things are not quite right either. They are listening to Steive on the radio who is talking about the FOG rolling in and notice that she just doesn't sound the same tonight.
When Stevies friend the weather man is talking to her, she asks about the fog. He tells her that the FOG has now reached Antonio Bay and it should be right outside his door. Suddenly, he hears a loud knocking on the door. Stevie warns him not to open the door. She is pleading with him but he does not listen to her. As he opens the door the glowing FOG is so thick that he cannot see who is there. Just then a blade is raised and a ghostly figure at the door slashes the man in the neck.
Suddenly all the power has gone out in Antonio Bay. Stevie is frantic because she cannot reach her son. Her only means of communication is via radio. She warns everyone not to go near the FOG. She begs them not to go outdoors and to lock themselves in. She pleads for someone to go to her house and save her son.
As the FOG consumes Antonio Bay in a glowing and deadly rein, the fight for survival is on. Who will survive the Fog? Or Who will die by it.
The Fog is the follow up film by the production team of Debra Hill and John Carpenter. Although their previous film “Halloween” was a huge hit , The Fog was not as big as it's predecessor. This time around instead of having a man in a mask killing people, they relied on more of a ghost story with a group of lepers killing for revenge. Still a favorite of mine, "The FOG" is still just a creepy and chilling as it has always been.
Now available on DVD in a Special Edition for the first time by MGM Home Entertainment, The FOG is presented in both a Standard and Widescreen (2.35:1 ratio). The Movie has never looked this good!. A Crisp and Clear picture, flawless of grain with nicely saturated colors. The soundtrack has been re-mastered into 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround. The results, a very clean and crisp audio track. Even though there's not much happening in the back speakers at all times, there are some surprises along the way. Also included is the films Origimal Mono Track.
The disc contains many great features such as:
*A New Documentary- with John Carpenter, Debra Hill, Adrienne Barbeau and Janet Leigh.
A very interesting documentary on their feelings of the film. John Carpenter also discuss's on how when they test screened the film, they thought it was boring. So they went back in a re-shot more gruesome scenes.
*Outtakes
*Storyboard to Film Comparison.
*Original 1980 Documentary.
*Advertising Gallery- features Trailers and TV Spots.
*Liner notes by John Carpenter.
And an Audio Commentary by John Carpenter and Debra Hill.
MGM did a great job with this 25 year old Cult Horror Classic.
